Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, is pleased with his appointment to the House of Commons Standing Committee for Fisheries and Oceans. Mr. McDonald will serve on the Committee with his colleague, Scott Simms.
“As a new Member of Parliament, I’m delighted to serve on the Standing Committee for Fisheries and Oceans. The work of this Committee is very important to Newfoundland and Labrador and to the Riding of Avalon. I look forward to beginning Committee work this week and anticipate thorough debate on many important fisheries issues, including resource management, science, marine infrastructure and aquaculture.” said McDonald.
“I believe the revitalization of the traditional cod fishery in Newfoundland and Labrador is important for much needed economic diversification in our province. However, I also believe that it must be done in a manner that is sustainable and provides the maximum financial return for all stakeholders.” said McDonald. “Strategic marketing of a quality product will be so important to future success.”
