M.P. for Avalon Ken McDonald was elected Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans. Elected and nominated by his peers on the committee, M.P. McDonald is thrilled and honoured to have been chosen by colleagues to preside over the committee.
“Being a member of the Fisheries and Oceans Committee (FOPO) since 2016, I have seen first-hand the great work we can achieve when we work together to advocate for the livelihoods of our fishers, the protection of our environment, and more streamlined process for a safer and efficient industry.”
The Fisheries and Oceans Committee has accomplished many works and studies since 2016 such as the study of Vessel Length policies in Atlantic Canada, Northern Cod Stocks, Wild Atlantic Salmon, and much more.
“I truly look forward to working with my colleagues from coast, to coast, to coast, because together we can ensure the best lives for Canadians in coastal communities, like the ones I represent in Avalon.”
“Chairing this committee, I believe will be a great experience, but a challenging one at times. I would like to thank the former Chair of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, the M.P. for South Shore – St. Margaret’s, Bernadette Jordan for her leadership of the committee over the past six months. I am honoured to continue the good work we have started together.”
